LONDON -- Japan, the U.K. and Italy will each invest the same amount in their joint venture to develop a next-generation fighter jet, Nikkei has learned, giving them equal influence on the project. They are expected to agree on the JV's establishment soon.

The three countries in December 2022 launched the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), aiming to deploy a sixth-generation fighter jet by 2035 with capabilities surpassing most other advanced jets, including America's F-35.
