TOKYO -- Japan's Defense Ministry aims to recruit about 500 additional technical and administrative personnel, seeking specialized staff to bolster capabilities in emerging fields such as space and cyber defense.
The increase, to be included in its fiscal 2024 budget request, is the largest in recent years, according to the ministry. There are currently about 20,000 of these personnel, who are considered civil servants and do not fight on the front lines.
