TOKYO -- Japanese legislators on Thursday began discussing a treaty to establish a management body for a next-generation fighter jet being developed by Japan, the U.K. and Italy, with the partners hoping to produce a prototype as early as 2026.
Based on an agreement reached by Japanese, British, and Italian defense ministers last year, the treaty to establish the body needs to be ratified by each country.
