TOKYO -- Japan will conduct cyberdefense drills with five island nations in the Pacific, Nikkei has learned. As submarine cables crisscrossing the region are connected to Japan, Tokyo hopes to enhance cybersecurity in the area by deepening cooperation with the island nations.
The drills are scheduled to be held on the U.S. territory of Guam from Feb. 18 to 26, with five countries participating, in addition to Japan. Palau, which is considered one of the friendliest to Japan among the island nations, will take part, along with Nauru, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Kiribati. Government officials and cybersecurity experts from telecommunications companies from each country will participate. TheĀ U.S. also will send cybersecurity experts as lecturers.
