TOKYO -- A Japanese warship passed through the Taiwan Strait just days after Chinese fighter jets flew dangerously close to a Japanese plane over the Pacific Ocean, it was learned Thursday.
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer Takanami made its way through the strait on June 12. It participated in a joint exercise with the Philippine Navy in the South China Sea on Saturday.
