TOKYO -- The cockpit of a fifth-generation fighter, such as the F-35, is filled with computers that help the pilot make split-second decisions about potential dangers in the environment they are flying through.

Awareness of these risks is what distinguishes the best pilots -- and could be the deciding factor in war, experts say.
