SYDNEY/DARWIN, Australia -- Japan's Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade (ARDB) will join the U.S. Marines' annual rotations in the north of Australia starting from next year, ministers of the three countries announced on Sunday.

Australia's Defense Minister Richard Marles also confirmed that Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was one of two companies shortlisted to build new warships for Australia's navy.
