TOKYO -- Japan's ruling coalition will discuss a limited exception to the country's restrictions on defense equipment sales that would allow exports of a next-generation fighter jet currently in the works.

The policy chief of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party meets Wednesday with the counterpart from junior coalition partner Komeito.
