WASHINGTON -- The U.S. has started discussions with Japan about having its ally host a new multifunction army unit, Army Secretary Christine Wormuth has said, as Washington seeks to address potential threats posed by China. 

Multi-domain task forces handle such wide-ranging capabilities as long-range strikes, air defense, intelligence, cyberwarfare, electronic warfare and logistics support.
