MANILA -- The government of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte plans to diversify the Philippines' consumer-led economy by boosting exports and investment, Duterte's chief socioeconomic planner told the Nikkei Asian Review. Ernesto Pernia also said the incoming president wants to make sure the country grows in a way that reduces poverty and inequality.
The government's macroeconomic policies will favor countryside development, rather than advancing existing business hubs, Pernia said.
