MANILA -- Former President Rodrigo Duterte's arrest by the International Criminal Court will impact the Philippines' political landscape as the country heads into midterm elections amid a growing rivalry between the families of Duterte and incumbent President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., according to analysts.
The former leader, who was arrested in Manila on Tuesday over his "war on drugs" campaign during his tenure, was flown out Tuesday evening via a chartered flight to the Netherlands, where he will be tried at The Hague, the international tribunal's headquarters. Duterte's daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, departed for the Netherlands on Wednesday morning to join her father and their lawyers at the ICC.
