Leader of 2014 coup follows past prime ministers in joining Privy Council

BANGKOK -- Former Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has been appointed to the Privy Council, which advises Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn on state matters, the Royal Gazette announced Wednesday.

The appointment took effect that day. Many of Thailand's former prime ministers and army commanders have gone on to join the council, and Prayuth was expected to follow in their footsteps.
