HONG KONG -- Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Friday that the city will postpone selecting its next leader by two months due to the city's burgeoning COVID-19 crisis.

The nomination period for candidates had been due to start on Sunday, but that date will now be postponed to April 3. The 1,500-member committee that will choose the next chief executive will now meet on May 8 instead of March 27.
