BANGKOK -- The international rights group Human Rights Watch called out the world's democracies for employing "selective outrage and transactional diplomacy" in responding to abuses, particularly in Asian countries, like India and Vietnam, that have become vital to geopolitical hedging.

In its annual report released Thursday, the organization said 2023 was characterized not only by wartime atrocities in Myanmar, Ukraine and Gaza, but also by "double standards in applying the human rights framework."
