HONG KONG -- Hong Kong residents heading to the city's legislative polls on Sunday will find their ballots missing the names of dozens of familiar opposition politicians who often were among the top vote-getters in their districts.

With popular favorites like Nathan Law or Eddie Chu in jail or exile, voters seeking an alternative to the candidates of the city's vocal pro-government party machines have only a few self-proclaimed, low-profile democrats running on their own to consider.
