NEW DELHI -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party and his ruling coalition are set to secure a landslide victory and return to power.

As of 1:30 p.m. local time, Modi's BJP alone was leading in 296 constituencies, surpassing a majority, according to early counts by the Election Commission of India. Local media reports suggest the ruling coalition, the National Democratic Alliance, is ahead in around 340 to 350 seats.
