NEW DELHI -- Nitin Gadkari, a senior leader in India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet, fainted while delivering a speech during an election rally late last month on a day when temperatures soared to 40 C.

"I felt uncomfortable due to the heat," Gadkari posted on X, formerly Twitter, soon after the incident in the western state of Maharashtra. "But now I am completely healthy and leaving ... to attend the next meeting."
