JAKARTA -- Indonesian presidential frontrunner Prabowo Subianto defended his 460 trillion rupiah ($29 billion) free lunch plan and pledged to send 20,000 students abroad for medical and other studies during the fifth and final debate on Sunday night before the Feb. 14 vote.

The defense minister has stepped up his campaign promises in the past week. After declaring an ambitious 8% economic growth target last week, Prabowo said on Sunday that he would open 200 new medical schools in Indonesia and give scholarships to 10,000 students to pursue medical studies abroad and 10,000 others to study science and engineering overseas.
