SAN FRANCISCO -- In their first meeting in a year, the leaders of Japan and China on Thursday agreed to find a solution to resolve their differences over the release of waste water from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

In San Francisco, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stressed the need for "a calm and scientific approach" to the discharge of treated water. He also called for the immediate end of Chinese import restrictions on Japanese seafood, according to a Japanese readout of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
