Philippine president looks to cool maritime tensions in meeting with China leader

MANILA -- Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sought to cool tensions over the South China Sea at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in San Francisco on Friday.

"Essentially, we tried to come up with mechanisms to lower the tensions in [the] South China Sea," Marcos said following the summit he initiated with Xi on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' gathering.
