TOKYO -- China and Japan have reached an agreement in a yearlong dispute over treated wastewater released from the latter's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

The deal, which involves international monitoring and was first reported on Friday, opens a pathway for lifting a blanket ban on Japanese seafood that Beijing imposed last year. The ban came in response to the discharge of the water from the plant, which suffered meltdowns after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
