HONG KONG -- While U.S. President Joe Biden invited leaders from Japan and the Philippines to the White House this week to enhance regional alliances, China was busy tightening its own ties with key partners on the other side of the globe.

Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress, landed in Pyongyang on Thursday for a three-day tour. The No. 3 official in the Chinese Communist Party hierarchy brought a delegation of party and state representatives on an "official friendship visit," including commemorations of the 75th anniversary of relations.
