SYDNEY -- China's ambassador to Australia called Wednesday for the two countries to "work harder" at resuming halted defense ties, even as he took a swipe at Canberra over its reaction to Taiwan's weekend election.
In a wide-ranging news briefing, Xiao Qian also brushed off concerns about the Pacific island nation of Nauru cutting diplomatic ties with Taiwan for China this week and pointed a finger at Japan over a naval incident last year in which Australian divers were injured by sonar initially linked to a Chinese warship.
