China hits back at ex-Maldives president's 'land grab' claim

Mohamed Nasheed has no right to speak of bilateral partnership, says Beijing

BEIJING -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang on Tuesday lambasted former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed's allegation that Beijing is taking over the island nation in the Indian Ocean, calling it "absolutely false."

Geng also told reporters that his claim is "groundless and absurd."
