China readies naval exercises off Taiwan as tensions rise

After Taipei snags $2.2bn US arms sale, Beijing reserves its right to force

BEIJING/TAIPEI -- China said Monday that swaths of water near Taiwan will be off-limits to outside traffic much of this week for "military activities" in what appears to be a show of force weeks after Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's administration secured a $2.2 billion arms deal with the U.S.
