JAKARTA -- China's Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi launched an attack on the U.S. and "certain Western countries" for calling the country nondemocratic, arguing that the world's second biggest economy has a thriving democracy of its own.
Wang's comments were made on Thursday in a prerecorded statement at the Bali Democracy Forum, a gathering that Indonesia hosts annually. The comments come hours ahead of America's own two-day virtual Summit for Democracy, to which Beijing was not invited, is due to begin.
