BEIJING -- Chinese Foreign Minister and Politburo member Wang Yi completed a tour of Germany, Spain and France on Wednesday, part of an apparent effort by Beijing to reduce the region's reliance on the U.S., with which Beijing anticipates prolonged tensions.

Wang and French President Emmanuel Macron met in Paris on Tuesday, with Macron expressing a desire to cooperate toward a high-level exchange by the end of this year, according to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Chinese President Xi Jinping is considering a visit to France this spring.
