MANILA -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with newly inaugurated Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, as Beijing seeks a "new golden era" in diplomatic relations despite a festering territorial dispute in the South China Sea.

Wang's visit to the Philippines, part of a Southeast Asian tour, comes as Washington also works to bolster its alliance with Manila after a rocky relationship with former President Rodrigo Duterte.
