HONG KONG -- The U.S. diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics has "poisoned the atmosphere," China said on Tuesday, warning the decision could harm cooperation between the countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said China would take "resolute countermeasures" if the boycott stands, arguing against "politicizing sports."
