BEIJING -- Chinese media are dialing up criticism of Japan's release of wastewater from the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, raising speculation that Beijing is allowing the aggressive coverage to divert attention from its economic woes.

"Japan is employing despicable means to shift blame onto China," reads the title of an editorial published Tuesday in the Chinese Communist Party-affiliated Global Times.
