NEW DELHI -- The already-strained ties between India and Canada took another blow Monday as the two countries expelled each other's top diplomats, their latest move in a row over the June 2023 assassination of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil.

Earlier in the day, India's foreign ministry said that it had received a diplomatic communication from Canada that New Delhi's "high commissioner and other diplomats are 'persons of interest' in a matter related to an investigation in that country."
