NEW DELHI -- India and Saudi Arabia late on Tuesday agreed to expedite work on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the kingdom before cutting his trip short in the wake of a deadly terror attack back home.

Modi, who arrived in the Saudi city of Jeddah in the afternoon for a scheduled two-day visit, held talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, "which began with the reference to the unfortunate terror attack" in Pahalgam in India's northern Jammu and Kashmir region, India's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Suhel Ajaz Khan, told reporters.
