TOKYO -- A senior cabinet member has said Pakistan will match India's military actions step by step, suggesting that any de-escalation in tensions between the two nuclear powers is still some way off.

Musadik Malik, who has held senior positions in successive governments, told Nikkei Asia on Friday that if India "raises the temperature, we [will] proportionately raise the temperature plus one."
