NEW DELHI -- India will host the annual Group of 20 summit in September 2023, the government announced on Tuesday, as it prepares to take over presidency of the grouping for a year starting Dec. 1.

The position will place India at the forefront of global diplomacy at a time when Russia's invasion of Ukraine and global inflation are unleashing economic distress across emerging markets.
