NEW DELHI -- India's government on Thursday confirmed that it has "temporarily" stopped issuing visas for Canadian citizens due to "security threats being faced by our High Commission and consulates in Canada," marking an escalation of the two countries' war of words over the killing of a Sikh separatist.

India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Arindam Bagchi told reporters that the threats have "disrupted [the offices'] normal functioning."
