Japan's Foreign Ministry debuts China strategy group

Long-term assessment of Beijing's activity planned, spurred by Ukraine war

TOKYO -- Japan's Foreign Ministry has created an internal strategy group tasked with monitoring Chinese activities in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The new team collects and analyzes political, economic and diplomatic intelligence related to China. This long-term assessment will inform Tokyo's strategy toward Beijing.
