WASHINGTON -- At the entrance of the British Embassy in Washington, a veteran sculptor is chiseling the name of Dame Karen Pierce into a marble wall that celebrates past ambassadors to the U.S.
Pierce, who finished her term in February, is the first woman on the list. Engraved on the top of the list is George Hammond, who became the first envoy in 1791.
