BEIJING -- Indonesia's Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto will visit China from Sunday to Tuesday and meet President Xi Jinping, for the first overseas visit since he secured a victory to become the next president of Southeast Asia's largest economy.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday announced Prabowo's visit. Spokesperson for the ministry Lin Jian said in a press conference that "both countries represent emerging economies and have traditionally had strong friendly relations." Through his visit, "we hope to deepen all-round strategic cooperation and create a joint development model," Lin added.
