JAKARTA -- Indonesia on Tuesday welcomed its formal entry into BRICS, saying it would use its membership to strengthen partnerships with and amplify voices of the Global South.

The government announcement came after Brazil, which holds this year's BRICS presidency, on Monday said that Indonesia is formally joining as the 11th full member of the informal grouping of emerging economies.
