TOKYO/BEIJING -- The Japanese and Chinese governments are exploring an opportunity for their leaders to meet face to face this autumn, hoping to improve chilled relations as the two countries mark the 45th anniversary of their peace treaty on Saturday.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to attend the Group of 20 summit in India this September. The two sides are weighing a potential meeting on the sidelines of the event.
