Japan PM Ishiba looks to meet Trump as soon as February

Tokyo expects a more fruitful meeting by waiting until after inauguration

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is preparing to visit Washington for a meeting with Donald Trump as soon as February following the U.S. president-elect's inauguration, Nikkei has learned.

Trump is due to take office on Jan. 20. Tokyo has conveyed its intention to meet with the incoming U.S. leader in February or later and is coordinating with Trump's camp.
