RIO DE JANEIRO/LONDON -- Japan and the U.K. are seeking to push back against protectionism and other shared challenges through an economic "two-plus-two" dialogue as the reelection of Donald Trump in the U.S. casts uncertainty over global trade.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer agreed to the joint dialogue between foreign and economic ministers at a meeting Monday on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.
