TOKYO -- Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will work together to create a competitive and green automotive industry, their leaders agreed at a summit in Tokyo on Sunday.

"This summit was the perfect opportunity for Japan and ASEAN to reflect on the progress that has been made, to look at each other's present, and to discuss our common future," Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters after the meeting, held to mark 50 years of ties.
