Japan defense chief to meet with U.S. counterpart Austin on Wednesday

TOKYO -- Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada will hold his first meeting with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday as he travels to the U.S. just a month after assuming the post.

"We'll affirm that we'll cooperate closely to respond to all types of situations and further align our strategies," Hamada told a news conference here Tuesday before leaving for Washington.
