RINTO HORIKOSHI

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba departs Thursday on a three-day trip to the U.S. for his first summit with President Donald Trump, with an agenda expected to include affirming the importance of stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Ishiba meets with Trump in Washington on Friday, according to the schedule announced Tuesday by Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.
