NEW YORK -- Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida launched a dialogue with the U.S., Australia and other like-minded nations on Monday to pave the way for an international treaty prohibiting the production of nuclear weapons materials.

Kishida met with senior officials at the United Nations headquarters in New York, including the foreign ministers of Australia and the Philippines, as well as representatives from nuclear states like the U.S., the U.K. and France.
