TOKYO -- The Japanese government intends to relax visa application requirements for Chinese nationals visiting Japan, aiming to encourage more cross-border exchanges as the two countries work on strengthening ties, notably economic ones.

Japan's relevant ministries and government offices, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and the National Police Agency, are expected to meet soon to approve the changes, which will include a reduction in visa application paperwork.
