Japanese companies ask Vietnam brass: When will we get paid?

Nonpayment for subway project and other pitfalls loom over business community

HANOI -- Japanese companies investing in Vietnam are beginning to sweat the ability of leaders to resolve business issues in a timely fashion, including nonpayment for a completed subway in the country's largest city.

One regulatory target has already been missed. Tokyo-based Tsukuba Diecasting has been making parts for electronic devices and motorcycles in Vietnam since obtaining a 30-year investment permit in 1995. The operation has helped grow the economy.
