BEIJING/BRUSSELS -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's meeting Thursday with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron marked another step in Beijing's efforts to chip away at a U.S.-led containment campaign.

Xi touted the "momentum of positive and steady growth in the China-France relationship" during Macron's visit to Beijing, which also included a trilateral meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
