TOKYO -- Officials from 14 Palestinian factions signed a reconciliation deal in Beijing on Tuesday, according to China's Foreign Ministry, raising the possibility that they will put aside 17 years of political rivalry.

Leaders of Hamas and Fatah, who were among the 14 factions, met for a second time in the Chinese capital in less than three months as Beijing steps up its diplomatic ambitions in the Middle East.
